IT`S A LONG TIME SINCE MY LAST BLOG AND A LOT HAS HAPPENED SINCE THEN!
I HAD PLANNED TO BRING MY BENTLEY TO NORWAY THIS YEAR SO IT COULD BE REBUILT AS I`M NO LONGER ABLE TO STAY IN FRANCE LONG ENOUGH TO DO THIS IN MY LARGE WORKSHOP ANY MORE AS MY WIFE NEEDS CONSTANT ATTENTION. THE ONLY WAY THAT THE CAR WOULD RUN AGAIN WOULD BE IF I BROUGHT THE PIECES TO NORWAY AND REBUILT IT HERE.
I`VE BEEN LOOKING FOR A NEW LARGER WORKSHOP IN THE OSLO AREA FOR OVER TWO YEARS NOW AS DRIVING THE 75 Km TO HOBOL, WHERE MY PRESENT WORKSHOP IS, HAS OVER THE FIVE YEARS THAT I`VE BEEN THERE BECOME A DRUDGE. UNFORTUNATELY A UNIT OF AROUND 50 SQUARE METERS IS A VERY RARE ANIMAL AND IF ONE CAN BE FOUND THE PRICE IS TOO MUCH SO THAT THE ONLY ALTERNATIVE THAT I HAVE IS TO COMPLETELY RE ORGANIZE MY EXISTING WORKSHOP TO MAKE ROOM FOR THE BENTLEY.
THIS WILL MEAN THAT I WILL HAVE TO SELL OFF SEVERAL OF THE MACHINES ON ORDER TO DO THIS! I WILL ADD DETAILS OF THESE MACHINES TO THE FOR SALE SECTION IN DUE COURSE.

THIS WAS SUPPOSED TO BE A WEEKS TRIP TO THE UK TO SORT OUT THE BENTLEY PROJECTS AND PICK UP THE MACHINE PARTS THAT I`D BOUGHT.
HOWEVER, IT TURNED OUT TO BE A MARATHON AND I RETURNED TO OSLO EXHAUSTED.
I HAD BEEN CORRESPONDING WITH NEVILLE WHO LIVES IN THE USA HE HAD SOME CASTINGS FOR A WESTBURY MILLING MACHINE THAT HE WANTED TO SELL, HE WAS IN THE UK DURING MY VISIT AND I WENT TO PICK UP THE CASTINGS AT HIS HOUSE NORTH OF MANCHESTER. THE CASTINGS TURNED OUT TO BE VERY WEATHER BEATEN BUT OF COURSE WELL SEASONED. HE GAVE ME SOME USEFUL LUMPS OF STEEL AND CAST IRON THAT WILL EVENTUALLY FIND IT`S WAY TO NORWAY.
MY NEXT TRIP WAS A FORAY INTO DEEPER ESSEX WHERE THE INDIGENOUS INHABITANTS HAVE RATHER STRANGE DRIVING HABITS. JUST OUTSIDE MALDON I MET UP WITH LES WHO HAD AN UNFINISHED DORE WESTBURY MK2 MILLING HEAD FOR SALE. THIS WAS UNUSUAL IN THAT IT HAD A 3 MORSE TAPER IN THE QUILL, AN OPTIONAL EXTRA THAT WAS OFFERED BY MES THE KIT MANUFACTURERS.

I WON`T BE USING THE RATHER UNUSUAL BACK GEAR ASSEMBLY THAT YOU CAN SEE IN THE TOP PHOTO, RELYING INSTEAD ON THREE SETS OF PULLEYS TO GIVE THE NECESSARY SLOW SPINDLE SPEEDS THAT THE DW DESIGNERS DEEMED NECESSARY FOR LARGE DIAMETER FLYCUTTING.
